What time should I arrive
- I would recommend that you arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointments.
What should I wear
- loose fitting clothing usually works best but I have yet to encounter any clothing that has prevented me from being to facilitate the treatment that the patient’s body has planned
Will the treatment be painful
- the majority of patients find the treatments very relaxing, some patients even fall asleep. There are certainly some techniques that I have to use that can redefine your definition of pain and certainly have redefined mine when they were performed on me but that is very few and far between and I will always try to give the patient advance notice that there may be some pain involved in the next session when I think I will have to use one of those techniques
Will I feel better immediately
- There are typically three general possibilities that result from a treatment
- – ( The BEST Outcome ) improvement or resolution of a complaint
- – ( The NEXT BEST Outcome ) exacerbation of the original complaint / symptom and/or the return of an old complaint / symptom and/or presentation of a new complaint / symptom
- – – – typically lasting less than 72 hrs and often managed with TYLENOL or IBUPROFEN as directed, oral and/or topical CBD, ICE ON x 30 min every 2 hours
- – ( The WORST Outcome ) the patient presents to the next visit reporting that they did not experience ANY changes of any kind.
How long is the appointment
- The Initial Visit to Establish Care is 90 min ( 120 min during COVID TIME )
- The Follow Up Visit is 30 min ( 60 min during COVID TIME )
How often will I have to follow up
- Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine ( OMM ), in relation to time, is best seen as a process and not an event. Often, we will be working to remove years, if not decades, of stacked strains that each patient has acquired over the course of their lives and to think that we could appropriately address a life’s worth of acquired strains in a few treatments I think would be naive on everyone’s part.
- I have always asked my patients to commit to at least 6 visits before they attempt to make a decision about the efficacy of the treatments. After 6 weeks, if the patient can honestly report that they are not feeling any better, I would never pressure a patient in any way to continue treatment but, I think it’s important to commit to at least 6 visits before trying to make that determination.
- It should also be noted that…….. I have treated patients who did not realize the full benefit of the treatment process until they had been in treatment for more than a year and in some cases longer but, ultimately reporting that they were significantly better than they had been prior to initiating treatment and that they were VERY thankful that they continued being seen despite the paucity of changes early on in the treatment process.
